THE CHAMPION WAY

FOR THE GOOD
OF PEOPLE AND
THE PLANET

As the original inventors of the hoodie, Champion has long pioneered products that give meaning to the world. Authenticity continues to define how we find purpose; innovation continues to drive us forward. While it’s far from flawless, when it comes to the planet and the good of the people, we’re fully committed to the journey toward a better future.

Globally, we're aiming to contribute to improving the lives of ten million people by 2030. That’s a tall order, but we plan to do so by:

  • Supporting our global employee base, and those of our suppliers, through a broad range of programs including education, health and wellness, and diversity and inclusion.
  • Maintaining robust ethical sourcing practices and remaining committed to human rights and responsible sourcing.
  • Supporting our communities focusing on the themes of Comfort, Inclusion and Health.

We are currently supporting our communities by:

  • Providing clothing essentials to vulnerable Aussies in times of crisis through our partnership with GIVIT.
  • Partnering with Melbourne based social enterprise, HoMie, who focuses on supporting young people affected by homelessness or hardship.

This isn’t just about following our heads and hearts. To help minimise our impact on this planet, we have to follow the science.

As part of the global HanesBrands family, we’ve signed the Science-Based Targets Call-to-Action Commitment Letter. This means our greenhouse goals are backed by rigorous scientific standards. Together with our global HanesBrands family, we are aiming by 2030 for:

  • A 50% reduction in Scope 1 & 2 emissions,
  • A 30% reduction in Scope 3 emissions.

2025 GOALS

By 2025, we aim to:

  • Achieve zero waste across our own operations and support key suppliers to do the same.
  • Manufacture and source product only from facilities that have completed the Sustainable Apparel Company Higg Facility Environmental Module (Higg FEM) process and will include Higg FEM scores in our factory compliance evaluations.

2030 GOALS

We will also drive a range of other Planet goals, by 2030:

  • A 25% reduction in energy use in our owned facilities and supporting our key suppliers to do the same.
  • The use of 100% renewable electricity in our owned operations through direct investment and renewable energy credits, where reasonably possible.
  • A 25% reduction in water use in our owned operations.

All reduction goals are off of a 2019 baseline.

From using less packaging to using more sustainable cotton – it’s not just what we make, it’s how we make it. By 2025, we aim to:

  • Use 100% sustainably sourced cotton and 100% recycled/biodegradable polyester in our products. We define sustainable cotton as U.S. and Australian grown, organic, recycled or sourced through reputable sustainable cotton certification programs.
  • Eliminate single-use plastics in our product packaging. Any that does remain we’ll work towards being reusable or recyclable.
  • Reduce packaging weight by 25%.

All reduction goals are off of a 2019 baseline.

ACTIONS
SPEAK
LOUDER

THAN
WORDS

  • For Hanesbrands’ owned manufacturing, distribution and offices we are working to use less power and water, reduce carbon emissions and focus on renewable electricity.
  • In Australia, as part of the Hanes Australasia Group, we are a member of the Australian Packaging Covenant Organisation (APCO). More sustainable packaging means less impact on the Australian environment.
  • By partnering with Australia’s first re-usable hanger program, PACT Group, we’re reusing our store hangers to divert them from landfill and reduce carbon emissions.

OUR CORE

Our people are the core of everything we do. They are the pulse that drives us, and we see each and every employee as a member of our family. That’s why we are passionate about:

  • Treating everyone fairly, with dignity and respect.
  • Supporting fundamental human rights for all.
  • Providing a safe and healthy workplace.
  • Valuing diversity, equality and inclusion.
  • Ensuring no child or forced labour is used.

Thriving individuals are the heart of healthy communities. That’s why, as part of the Hanes Australasia Group, we team up with charities to offer financial, volunteer and aid support where it's needed most, from remote and rural districts to the youngest and most vulnerable citizens.

GIVIT is a national not-for-profit which aims to alleviate poverty and help people in times of crisis by connecting those who have with those who need. By working with GIVIT we’re helping to bring comfort to vulnerable Australians.

Champion is a proud partner of HoMie, a social enterprise based in Melbourne, Australia that uses 100% of its profits to provide clothing, training and job opportunities to young people affected by homelessness or hardship. Through partnering with the HoMie crew, we've been able to help draw attention to the issue of youth homelessness and through an ongoing partnership with the HoMie Pathway Alliance Program.

INTEGRITY

We hold ourselves and our suppliers accountable to strong ethical standards and are committed to human rights and responsible sourcing.

Under our parent company, Hanesbrands, we run an ethical sourcing program and are a fully accredited participating company in the Fair Labor Association (FLA), an internationally recognized multi-stakeholder labor rights organization. Our program monitors social compliance through ongoing annual assessments of factories to ensure compliance with our policies and identify any opportunities for continuous improvement. You can read more about our program here.

We have been recognised by Baptist World Aid for our commitment to ethical sourcing and sustainability. Champion, along with other brands in the Hanes family, achieved another grade A rating in their 2021 Ethical Fashion Report. In 2022, we were also ranked in the Top 20% of companies assessed.
