THE CHAMPION WAY

FOR THE GOOD
OF PEOPLE AND
THE PLANET

As the original inventors of the hoodie, Champion has long pioneered products that give meaning to the world. Authenticity continues to define how we find purpose; innovation continues to drive us forward. Here’s what changes we’re making for the good of people and the planet…

OUR COMMITMENT

As part of a global company, we’re committed to reducing our environmental footprint. We aim high, and we don’t shy away from a challenge. Champion is part of Hanesbrands and Hanesbrands is well on its way to achieving its 2020 global environmental goals:

  • Reduce water usage by 50%.
  • Reduce carbon emissions by 40%.
  • Reduce energy consumption by 40%.
  • Go renewable for 40% of our energy needs.
  • Divert 100% of company-owned supply chain waste from landfills.

ACTIONS
SPEAK
LOUDER

THAN
WORDS

  • For Hanesbrands’ owned manufacturing, distribution and offices we are working to use less power and water, reduce carbon emissions and focus on renewable resources.
  • In Australia, as part of the Hanes Australasia Group, we are a member of the Australian Packaging Covenant Organisation (APCO). More sustainable packaging means less impact on the Australian environment.
  • By partnering with Australia’s first re-usable hanger program, we’re recycling our store hangers to divert landfill, reduce carbon emissions and save water.

OUR CORE

Our people are the core of everything we do. They are the pulse that drives us, and we see each and every employee as a member of our family. That’s why we:

  • Treat employees fairly, with dignity and respect.
  • Support fundamental human rights for all people.
  • Provide safe and healthy workplaces.
  • Value diversity.
  • Ensure child or forced labor is never used.

Thriving individuals are the heart of healthy communities. That’s why, as part of the Hanes Australasia Group, we team up with charities to offer financial, volunteer and aid support where it's needed most, from remote and rural districts to the youngest and most vulnerable citizens.

GIVIT is a national not-for-profit which aims to alleviate poverty and help people in times of crisis by connecting those who have with those who need. By working with GIVIT, we’re not only bringing comfort to vulnerable Australians but also keeping items out of landfill.

Champion is a proud partner of HoMie, a social enterprise based in Melbourne, Australia that uses 100% of its profits to provide clothing, training and job opportunities to young people affected by homelessness or hardship. Through partnering with the HoMie crew, we've been able to help draw attention to the issue of youth homelessness and through an ongoing partnership with the HoMie Pathway Alliance Program.

INTEGRITY

We hold ourselves to the highest ethical standards and expect no less from our suppliers. Our vision is an end to unethical sourcing practices and the exploitation of workers in the apparel industry. Read more about our corporate responsibility here.

Our parent company, Hanesbrands, has an established industry-leading ethical sourcing program which has been in place for more than 20 years. Our ethical sourcing program is accredited by the Fair Labor Association (FLA), a global leader in the promotion and protection of workers’ rights.

As part of Hanesbrands, we work with the U.N. International Labour Organization’s Better Work program, and have ranked among the best companies for social compliance and labour rights with advocacy organisations As You Sow and Free2Work, a compliance grading system.

We also work closely with Baptist World Aid to provide transparency into the work we are doing in the environment and to uphold workers’ rights. Champion, along with other brands in the Hanes family, achieved a grade A rating in the 2019 Ethical Fashion Report. You can find a detailed report via baptistworldaid.org.au.
